10 Tactics for More Effective SMB Webcasts

Need more SMB leads? Webcasts will get them. In fact, webcasts were the second-highest rated acquisition tool (search was No. 1) in our June survey of leading SMB marketers, Marketing to SMBs in a Downturn. For retention, webcasts are second only to email newsletters. Still, it takes time and skill to produce an effective webcast. Here are 10 tactics to make yours get results.

Offer compelling content. In BBI's 2007 survey Marketing to SMBs through Web 2.0, 31% of SMBs stated that webcasts are an important or extremely important format for business-building advice. This means you need to choose your topic carefully to maximize payback from this powerful format. You will attract and impress more prospects by providing valuable business-building advice than by turning your webcast into a sales pitch. The topic should relate to your offerings – in other words, they should focus on the areas to which SMBs look to you for expertise.

Make your team the star. There's no need to beg (or pay) a big-name expert to headline your webcast. Arrange for someone from your executive team to present. Having your staff front and center is important for showing your bench strength and commitment to small business. It's also best if two people conduct the webcast. Let one moderate and the other serve as the interviewee. The back-and-forth banter will entertain your listeners more than just one presenter.

Pick the right time and day. Webcasts are best held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. For the rest of this tactic and seven more, click to continue.
